Facebook livestreaming is all the rage as of late but when I heard this today, it kind of blew my mind. I mean those are some staggering stats!

Did you know that 85% of Facebook videos are watched WITHOUT sound?*

85% that is massive!

It’s true, video gets much more engagement than regular posts but if nobody hears what you are saying then that kind of defeats the purpose, right?

So how does that impact you as an online entrepreneur? If you are a well-known public persona, probably not all that much because your tribe is eager to hear from you and they are going to turn the sound on.

But if you’re not, let’s talk about what you can do about it. Here are some tips and tools how you can overcome this challenge. By the way this is what a lot of savvy brands are doing these days.

If you are livestreaming make sure your video has a captivating title that draws your audience in and makes them want to ‘hear‘ what you have to say and most importantly have something to say.

Think about it this way: Why would you click on person x’s livestream if you have never heard of them before? It’s because something in the title gives you the promise of delivering a result that you desire. But then you got to follow through on that promise. Don’t livestream unless you are ready to contribute a ton of value.

On the flipside you have much more opportunity to reach a wider audience when you livestream. Matter of fact I was just listening to one of Amy Porterfield’s podcasts that had Kim Garst on and she mentioned  Facebook really rewards you for doing it by giving you 10 times (!) the reach of a regular post, meaning it pushes it out into the newsfeed for a lot more people to see.  Now if you have a ton of Facebook followers that wouldn’t normally see your post on your official page because of Facebook’s algorithm that could mean big exposure.

She also mentioned to have a strategy for every livestream that you do. For example if you are about to do a webinar it’s a great way to remind your followers to hop on the line with you and maybe even let them know that you’ll be giving away a freebie as an extra incentive for them to join you last minute.

Now if you are posting a regular video that you captured on your phone include text or captions that narrate what’s being shown. This way you are making it super-easy for your tribe to watch your content (and with a smartphone you can do these edits in a flash).

Facebook counts a video view as 3 seconds, so you got to grab your viewer’s attention in the first 3 seconds to make sure they stick around.

Here’s the main gist: GET CREATIVE because if everybody is livestreaming or posting videos then the newsfeed is becoming stale quickly and everything starts looking the same with the end result being everything is blending in.

So think about ways how you can stand out.

Maybe it is by having an interesting background that sticks out when you livestream. Or if you’re posting a video use a striking image as the thumbnail (just like you would when posting a Facebook Ad) and then use graphic overlays to narrate the content.

And don’t forget, while it’s great to be authentic in your video, keep in mind that YOU are representing your brand and you want to be true to that.

That does not mean you need to get done up by a stylist like you would for a photoshoot, but put some make-up on, get dressed up,… and maybe wear a signature accessory.

This is how people will start to recognize you when you show up in their newsfeed.

Now livestreaming is raw and in the moment so things are not always going to be perfect and I have to admit I’ve only done it a couple of times as I’m still getting ‘comfortable‘ with it.  But one thing is for sure, it’s not going away and some people out there are getting big results by consistently showing up and building a following. So as online entrepreneurs we’ve got to get into the game.

What are your thoughts about livestreaming and using video when it comes to promoting your services?

Are you doing it?

What’s your experience with it so far or are you still on the fence?

Thanks Simona. I’m just starting out with videos and these are great tips. I believe videos are some of the best (and quickest) ways to connect with your audience. They can make a difference. I’m not into live streaming yet, but I’m already experimenting with prerecorded videos and I’ll definitely look into the thumbnail and graphic overlays subjects!

Hi Antonella, yes that is absolutely true, they are a great way to directly connect with your audience and by adding those little details you are not only enticing them to click on it but it’ll also make you stand out from the crowd.
Good luck and keep me posted on how you are getting on.

        All my best,

        Simona
