It’s going on three years since I left my prestigious job at a Hollywood Movie Studio, started my own business and moved to Mexico, the place that’s been calling my soul for many years.

This has been an interesting week after facilitating a Private Intensive here in Playa del Carmen for one of my beautiful clients who flew in from Washington DC.  I put up a Facebook post and somebody commented on it

“What a sweet, lazy life” I created for myself…

So, time to clear up some misconceptions and pull back the curtain of what it really takes to run a business and make it work. It’s not about sipping margaritas, putting your feet into the sand and calling it a day…

First of all, there’s nothing LAZY about it as you are now responsible for your own paycheck.

You got to work to make it happen so that your bills are paid every single month and you can make a living.

That takes a lot of inner and outer work on a DAILY BASIS as any successful business owner will tell you.

1. First, you got to get your thinking straight, get clear on what it is you want, why you want it and why you will not deny it to yourself.

2. Then you need a SOLID STRATEGY that can get you there. That costs money, time, effort on your part.

3. And then you must commit that you’re willing to do whatever it takes to MAKE IT HAPPEN.

That means taking action each and every day, working long hours, breaking through your fears, transforming your limiting beliefs, completely flip them upside down, and stop caring what others will say or think about you as you go about doing this work and then some…

And when you finally create that sweet life, you got to keep doing 1, 2 and 3 so that you can keep enjoying the fruits of your labor and take it to the next level.

And part of that work is INVESTING IN YOURSELF, in your business, in your own personal growth, in your skill set, in learning new ways of doing things so that you can stay relevant and on top of the ever-changing marketplace.

The learning and the investing that you’ll have to do to be successful in business never stops.

So you can imagine my surprise yesterday when somebody I met at a recent professional development conference reached out and asked me “if I’d be willing to sponsor” them so they can pay for their own Intensive with a coach they met at that very conference…

Yup, you read that right.

I thought that it was actually interesting that the person who asked me to help sponsor their own VIP day was a SALES COACH.

Can you see the misalignment here?

How can you teach others about selling when you’re not willing or able to sell your own services to a potential client who needs help with sales?

You can’t!

PERIOD.

My answer to this coach was NO for 2 reasons:

1. I didn’t want to enable her to stay stuck in her comfort zone where NOTHING EVER CHANGES and…

2. I wanted to empower her to go out there and make that sale herself so that she can build her confidence and truly see what she’s capable of.

Because that’s what it takes to be successful in business.

Vision, mindset, skill set, confidence and an ability to SELL your services to those who you’re meant to be serving.

And that includes seeing yourself as being worthy of investing in yourself, because that’s the best investment that you can ever make, and I can say that having invested close to 6-figures into my own personal growth. Because nothing and nobody can ever take that away from you.

Those are the clients I work with.
Women with a big vision, who have a strong desire to step into their next chapter.

They know they are worthy of investing in themselves and in their vision and they are willing to do the work it takes to make it happen.

Because ONLY when you’re willing to put in the work on all levels will you get the result. And to do that your motivation, the reason WHY you wanted to do this in the first place has to be strong because you need that  desire that fuels you from the inside to keep going every single day no matter what shows up, no matter how many no’s you get, no matter how much money you need to invest in your business to take it to the next level and you are still RESPONSIBLE for creating this money.

So yes, happily ever after does mean you can create a sweet life for yourself but it’s definitely not lazy.
