I remember it so well, it was Thursday, October 10th, 2016, 3 pm… my stomach was in knots walking into his office.
He was sitting at his desk buried in paperwork and asked if we could reschedule.
I said
“No.”
He looked up, put his hands in front of his face and said:
“Oh my God, you’re leaving!!”
In that moment I felt like I was either going to faint or puke on the floor as I heard the YES come out of my mouth.
(Gross, I know but trust me this wasn’t a pretty moment.)
The thought that ran through my mind was that I had just committed financial suicide.
While my body was deciding which way to go, I heard him say:
“I’m so happy for you.”
Instantaneously, everything went calm.
My heart stopped racing, the urge to throw up went away and I felt the ground firmly under my feet.
Then we sat down and hashed out a transition plan.
One month later on November 15th 2016, I got on a plane with 2 suitcases, a carry-on, and 2 laptops and permanently moved to Playa del Carmen, Mexico, my dream destination.
Prior to this afternoon, I had been paralyzed by fears that kept me in in-decision, stuck, disempowered and frankly miserable.
I was plagued by thoughts of
“What if it doesn’t work?”
“What if I crash & burn?”
“What is my family going to think?”
But then my mentor lit a match under me, something that I could no longer ignore and push came to shove.
I made a decision to live life on my own terms and to follow my calling NOT KNOWING what to expect or if it was going to work out.
And today I’m so glad I did because if I had not said YES at that moment, I would have never met my beautiful clients and I would have never been able to guide them on the path to make their big vision their reality.
Like Kelley, the founder of a Non-Profit Organization dedicated to the conservation of a sacred bird species that’s in jeopardy of being extinct. She’s a foremost expert on this topic, a visionary who is 10 years ahead of others in her field and she’s made it her life’s mission to save these birds.
When we first met she wasn’t really making a living off it and nobody in the right circles knew about her expertise.
That’s changed since we started our work together.
Kelley got crystal clear on her products and services, how to price them.
She also broke through her fear of picking up the phone and offering her services and she’s GETTING PAID FOR THEM.
The icing on the cake… She was just invited to become a contributor to a scientific book after participating in an academic panel discussion where she was showcasing her expertise.
