Today is not ‘business as usual’. Considering what’s happening in the world, I want to take a moment and talk about the importance of giving back when you are in a position to do so.

There are times when you can really make a difference putting your creative entrepreneurial spirit to work. It’s amazing to see what’s unfolding here in the community and how business owners are coming together to support those affected by the massive earthquake that struck Mexico earlier in the week. In times like these we are called to step up and lead by example.

Change starts with the individual and it happens one person at a time.

Some of us might feel helpless in the face of the destruction caused by hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria as well as the devastation we suffered here from 2 major back to back earthquakes.

The truth is we are NOT HELPLESS, we can each individuallly contribute to help those in need. There are many ways to do this. One is a financial donation but the people affected in these areas also need clothes, food, shelter, medications, basic necessities, they need to heal from the trauma they suffered, they need strength and our support to rebuild their lives.

If you’re in a position to help I encourage you to do so. Every little contribution matters, whether it’s financial, you donate clothes, you share a message on your Social Media profiles or you volunteer your time. It sends a signal, a vibration into the Universe and it creates a ripple effect.

In times of need like these, we are required to come together and to step up.

We’ve seen small business owners here organize drives where people can drop off much needed supplies, anything from non-perishables, to water, toiletries to pet food (yes, let’s not forget our four-legged friends that have been displaced by this tragedy, they need our help, too) and then rent trucks and pay the drivers out of their own pocket to make sure the supplies get into the hands of those who need them.

We’ve seen others donate a percentage of their earnings to help the relief effort. One of them re-selling artisanal key chains from the heavy hit Chiapas area in his restaurant donating all the proceeds to the families of his employees that are left without a roof over their head.  As entrepreneurs we are creative and we can put what we do so well to use for a greater common good. We can lead by example.

This is the time to walk our talk, to live our values as changemakers, coaches, and heart-centered entrepreneurs.

If you’ve been following the news you see people digging into the rubble in Mexico City hoping to find those trapped in time, neighbors helping each other, people standing united for a greater common good.

Maybe this is what we’re meant to be learning from all of this, so that we can live it in times when all is well.

I’m going to walk my own talk here. I’ve donated 10% of the consulting fee from my new client and I will continue to tithe 10% of my future earnings to the relief effort.

This is just me because I am fortunate, I have a roof over my head, I have food in the fridge, I have clothes, I have water, I have a bed to sleep on. So many people in the affected areas here in Mexico and the Caribbean do not have that today.

Make no mistake about it, the news will stop covering this at some point but the people affected will suffer for years.

This is a time to step up in prayer, in faith and back it up with real ACTION.

With love,

Simona
